Welcome to PIZO
PIZO is the only commercially available, 100% reuse, one-step technology for the continuous manufacturing of products from the air pollution control dusts and other by-products of the steel industry. PIZO can be utilized to process materials from both Electric Arc Furnace (EAF) and Basic Oxygen Furnace (BOF) steel mills. PIZO technology is patent protected and significant enhancements have patents pending. PIZO was developed by Heritage Environmental Services (Heritage), the largest privately held environmental services company in the United States.
PIZO, an abbreviation for Pig Iron and Zinc Oxide, continuously manufactures three commercially saleable products, including: crude zinc oxide (CZO), pig iron and a high quality slag that has several applications. The dusts and by-products that are 100% reused by PIZO, have historically been processed for land disposal or partially recycled by the steel industry or offsite vendors.
In July 2007 Nucor Steel Corporation and Heritage entered a joint venture agreement to form two new companies for the commercial implementation of PIZO technology. The new companies are PIZO Operating Company, LLC and PIZO Technology Worldwide, LLC.
PIZO Technologies North America LLC is overseen by a Board of Directors comprised of senior officers from Nucor and Heritage. Heritage is responsible for the management of the company. The first PIZO plant is under construction and will process 50,000 tons per year of Electric Arc Furnace Dust (EAFD). The plant is expected to be operational in 2008 and is located near Blytheville, Arkansas. The EAFD feedstock will be supplied by Nucor Hickman and Nucor Yamato steel mills.
PIZO Technologies North America LLC is also jointly owned by Heritage and Nucor. The company controls PIZO technology in the North American market and will issue licenses for other PIZO facilities in the future.
